Floating on Cloud 9: A Modern Black and White Wedding at Block 41 Seattle

Some weddings simply have it—that rare combination of vision, style, and effortless cool. Sabrina and Ted’s modern black-and-white wedding at Block 41 in Seattle embodied that energy from start to finish. Designed and produced by Events by Genevieve (www.eventsbygenevieve.com), the day was sleek, architectural, and infused with the dreamlike concept of floating on Cloud 9.

The ceremony was striking in its restraint. More than 400 candles lined the aisle, many set on acrylic pedestals from @penniesrentals to give the illusion that the flames themselves were hovering in air. Rows of acrylic ghost chairs shimmered beneath floor-to-ceiling chiffon draping that softened the venue’s industrial edges. A single violinist from @theseattlestrings performed as candlelight danced across the room—a moment that felt both modern and timeless.

Along the staircase leading up to the ceremony, @honest.calligraphy installed custom vinyl excerpts from the couple’s vows. At the top, the final words read: “Leading me to you.” It was a subtle, deeply romantic gesture that perfectly encapsulated their connection.

Because the bride’s father is deaf, @hsdcorg provided an ASL interpreter throughout the event, ensuring that every emotion, laugh, and toast was experienced by everyone. The care and intention behind that detail reflected the way Sabrina and Ted approached every aspect of their day—with meaning, inclusivity, and grace.

Guests transitioned into a cocktail hour that felt like stepping into an art installation: floating candlesticks hung overhead, oversized black-and-white engagement portraits adorned the walls like an art gallery, and sculptural table lamps glowed softly against the brick backdrop. Upstairs, @lovetheoryfloralco transformed the space into ethereal clouds of baby’s breath, continuing the “floating” motif into the reception design.

Sabrina and Ted made a grand entrance, instantly setting the tone for one of the coolest receptions we’ve ever produced. Sabrina, who earlier took portraits wrapped in a fur shawl over her modern gown and Prada heels, exuded timeless winter elegance for their January wedding. Ted, in a tailored look accented by a YSL lapel pin, was effortlessly stylish—and even he admitted that saying yes to the ghost chairs had been worth it.

Dinner featured culinary artistry from @mojitoseattle, @foodzcatering, and @donnas.seattle, followed by late-night favorites from @dicksdrivein and Venezuelan-inspired dishes honoring Ted’s heritage. @insaiyanent kept the dance floor alive with CO₂ effects, a 360 photo booth (@itsdejabooth), and “dancing on the clouds” moments that tied the theme together. Even the candy bar—a black-and-white assortment tied with miniature satin bows— and the donuts from Ted's favorite shop @voodoodoughnut was a nod to Ted’s sweet tooth and their shared sense of fun.

Captured by @saskia_potter, the wedding reflected what we love most about modern design: structure, emotion, and a sense of ease. It wasn’t just glamorous—it was magnetic, expressive, and entirely them.
