When Cindy and Michael first began planning their Seattle wedding with us at Events by Genevieve (EBG) (www.eventsbygenevieve.com), the vision was soft and romantic—think seafoam, blush, and delicate textures. But as we got to know them, it became clear that these two were far bolder than that. Their personalities, their love story, and their shared cultural pride called for something vibrant, electric, and deeply personal.
The result? A Hong Kong–inspired celebration in Seattle that became one of our favorite transformations to date—rooted in heritage, infused with modern luxury design, and alive with color, energy, and meaning.
The day began at the Seattle Chinese Garden (@seattlechinesegarden), where Cindy and Michael exchanged vows in a serene ceremony surrounded by lush tropical greenery. Guests were greeted with traditional touches that set a tone of refined elegance and cultural authenticity, a hallmark of Pacific Northwest weddings that blend nature and tradition so beautifully.
The bride carried a bouquet with yellow and burgundy phalaenopsis orchids, grevillea, and yarrow. Then, as cocktail hour began, everyone enjoyed noticing all the guests traditional cultural outfits and the celebration burst into life. @makfaikungfu’s lion dancers appeared in a dazzling display of color and percussion, leading the guests on a ten-minute walk from the ceremony site to the reception at South Seattle College (@southseattlecollege).
It was an unforgettable moment—an immersive, cultural bridge between the sacred calm of the ceremony garden and the vibrant energy of the evening ahead.
When guests arrived, the college auditorium was transformed by the Events by Genevieve design and production team, proving that any venue can become extraordinary with thoughtful creativity. What had once been an academic space was now an immersive world of light, texture, and color—filled with tropical foliage, rattan lanterns, red tassels, and a bold palette of orange, cobalt blue, green, gold, and red.
At the entrance stood Cort Party Rentals brand new Cobalt Blue Olivier bar and custom neon barback installation by the EBG production team, designed to evoke Hong Kong’s glowing nightlife. Featuring symbols of luck, love, and playfulness—from the iconic lucky cat to a neon koi fish—it became the heartbeat of the reception. Around it, @emeraldcityflowers layered tropical blooms like orchids, birds of paradise, and palms to create a lush contrast against the structured architecture, embodying modern fine art floral design. Emerald City Flowers created a sensory floral experience with tropical blooms and foliage including birds of paradise, orchids, banana leaves, and palms. Elevated floral centerpieces and ikebana-inspired arrangements created dimension throughout the space, tying in elements from the linen patterns and tablescape.
The seating chart was crafted with intention and artistry. @krisannaelizabeth hand-calligraphed guests’ names on handheld fans adorned with gold tassels, while koi fish details carried through the stationery suite. The menus—shaped like traditional folding screen gates—were embossed with geometric patterns that matched the luxury bold patterned linens from @theonicollection and placemats from @bbjlatavola.
Dinner by @southseattlecollegecatering was a culinary standout, followed by an exquisite six-tier floating cake from @alewabakeshop, featuring hand-painted koi, gold lattice, and sugar birds of paradise and anthirium. The optical illusion of the cake levitating on a hidden acrylic stand made it an instant showpiece.
Between outfit changes—six in total (the most we have ever seen!), including two coutoure Jimmy Choo gowns—Cindy and Michael kept the guests entertained with a lively wedding trivia game that kept the energy high and gave out red envelopes for prizes. Cindy and Michael later reappeared for a two-part choreographed first dance with @abayasballroom—starting with Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You,” before launching into Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin. The room erupted in pure joy and awe that they did that!
From @thebespokeclothier’s dragon-embroidered tuxedo to @seattleeventdecor’s custom décor and our own team’s production and buildout, every detail reflected the couple’s evolution from understated to unapologetically bold.
Cindy & Michael’s wedding wasn’t just a design—it was a transformation. A reminder that the most memorable celebrations happen when couples dare to be fully themselves. For those seeking a luxury Seattle wedding planner who can blend heritage, artistry, and emotion into one seamless experience, Events by Genevieve was honored to bring their vision to life.
A huge thank you to this incredible Vendor team who pulled out all the stops for Cindy and Michael!
